A 62-year-old man was allegedly killed by his nephew, Kwaku Fokuo, in an argument over plantain theft in Apitkooko, an Obuasi suburb in the Ashanti region.
Kwaku Fokuo, 42, is said to have gotten into a heated argument with his 62-year-old uncle after accusing him of plantain thievery.
Nana Kwaku Asare has been identified as the deceased. According to eyewitnesses in Apitkooko, Nana Yaw, the incident occurred at 10 a.m., when the suspect, Kwaku Fokuo, killed his uncle with an iron rod, which he used to repeatedly beat him up until he died.
According to the eyewitness, he was sleeping when he heard a noise from the other compound and ran to see the nephew assaulting his uncle.
“Fokuo went to steal a plantain from a lady named Georgina, and she came to the house to demand it, but he refused. ” So the uncle decided to intervene and get the plantain for the owner, but this resulted in a heated argument in which Nana Asare was killed,” he told Adom News’ Isaac K. Normanyo.
He stated that the suspect is currently in police custody and that investigation is ongoing.
