Following the open declaration by Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the opposition NDC’s General Secretary, not to run for re-election but to run for the chairmanship position to unseat Samuel Ofosu Ampofo or retire, Benjamin Emmanuel Ephson, Managing Editor of the Dispatch Newspaper and a well-known pollster, has analyzed the charisma and credibility of the two stalwarts.
In an interview with Accra-based Metro TV, the renowned pollster stated that both are in good standing in terms of their experience and connections to the grassroots.
“You’ll need a chairman who is well-liked throughout the organization.” You need a chairman who instills trust in the grassroots, and Asiedu Nketia has been General Secretary for the two of them due to the nature of their positions. He has held various positions within the party.
“He was a former Member of Parliament.” The same can be said for Ofosu Ampofo, a former Member of Parliament and National Chairman. So these two bring credibility and longevity to the party, “he explained.
Mahama’s Second Coming Is A Threat To NDC’s Future Unity
Former President John Dramani Mahama has been advised not to interfere in the NDC’s upcoming national executive election following the party’s internal elections.
It was advised to the former President not to support any candidate. The reason, according to Ben Ephson, is that losing his favorite would jeopardize his bid to lead the party in 2024.
According to the pollster, the success of the party’s internal elections will determine the party’s fate in the upcoming 2024 general elections.
“The performance of the party in 2024 will be determined by two major factors. How the flagbearer conducts himself because if John Mahama is the flagbearer and he supports ‘A,’ and ‘A’ does not win, you can bet Mahama’s relationship with the person he does not support will be strained.

“I think Mahama will have to be as neutral as possible for the party’s own future towards 2024,” said the pollster.
He did, however, suggest that “even if you are going to support someone, you must do so discreetly because these are party leaders with high standing.” So the party’s unity and coherence towards 2024 will be how the flagbearer or how the party hierarchy is non-partisan in terms of these two leading members.”
