Professor Kofi Agyekum, head of linguistics at the University of Ghana, has joined those calling for a shoot to kill‘ order to combat the galamsey threat.
Several people have advocated for the government to declare an emergency and give the military the authority to kill anyone discovered at galamsey sites where illegal mining is taking place.
Given that water contamination can have serious consequences for human health, they are confident that this strategy will deter illegal miners while also protecting the country’s water supplies, ecology, and life.
In an interview on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” show, Professor Agyekum urged President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to take a stand and approve a “shoot to kill” order.
“. . Kwami, I now agree with you that we enforce that when we meet you there we must shoot you . . . where we have reached, we have to make up our mind that if you have decided to destroy the nation, the nation must also get rid of you,” he said.
