Otto Addo, the coach of the Ghana Black Stars, has apologized for criticizing referee Ismail Elfath following the match between Ghana and Portugal.
Remember how many Ghanaians and sympathizers went crazy after the football match ended?
Ghanaians slammed the referee for incorrectly awarding a penalty to Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo during the football match. Many people accused the referee of racism and publicly shamed him on social media.
Otoo Addo, the Black Stars’ coach, also blamed the referee for Ghana’s defeat on Thursday, claiming that Europeans had the referee’s support.
Ronaldo is a total genius for winning the penalty against Ghana – FIFA official
“The referee was not in our favor,” he said. You should probably ask the referee. I don’t have any proof of that. We were playing ball when we made contact. I’m not sure if they weren’t paying or if the VAR wasn’t paying attention. “Looking at the replay, we played the ball, but it was a foul against us.”
At a pre-match press conference yesterday, Addo apologized for his comments and expressed the hope that he would not face any sanctions from FIFA.
“Up to this point we didn’t get any answer (from FIFA), maybe I can use this stage now to apologize If I was too rude but I was very emotional after the match. Hopefully, I won’t get a fine”.
