GFA appoints Chris Hughton as Black Stars coach

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has appointed Chris Hughton as coach of the Black Stars national team.

Hughton will be assisted by George Boateng and Mas-Ud Didi Dramani, according to a statement released by the Ghana Football Association.

Under Kevin Keegan, Chris Hughton was named first-team coach of Newcastle United in 2008. Following Keegan’s departure in September of that year, he was named caretaker manager.

He was later appointed as Newcastle’s permanent manager following their relegation to the Championship, and he guided them to their first-ever promotion to the Premier League.

Since then, Chris has managed Birmingham City, Norwich City, Brighton and Hove Albion, and Nottingham Forest.

The following is the GFA’s statement on his appointment:

Following extensive deliberation between the two parties, the Ghana Football Association has appointed Chris Hughton as head coach of the Black Stars.

The appointment is consistent with the GFA’s vision of continuing the project of building a formidable squad that began with Otto Addo in the run-up to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 tournament.

Mr. Hughton has been the Black Stars’ Technical Advisor for the past year.

The GFA also decided to keep Assistant Coaches George Boateng and Mas-Ud Didi Dramani on board.

The three coaches were members of the World Cup technical team in Qatar.

The contract’s duration and terms of engagement would be announced in due course.
